Obamacare As Anti-Second-Amendment Government Harassment Tool

Two doctors have reported that swimming pools are a real threat to our nation’s children, among high numbers of drowning deaths for all ages in all water locations every year. “While public health resources and policies have largely focused on water parks and beaches, it may be more crucial to intervene on home swimming pools,” said Arin L. Madenci, the study’s co-author. [But see below!]
This should not be a surprise. A glance at the Center For Disease Control’s page on water-related injuries tells a tale of death and destruction.
From 2005-2009, there were an average of 3,533 fatal unintentional drownings (non-boating related) annually in the United States — about ten deaths per day. An additional 347 people died each year from drowning in boating-related incidents.
About one in five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger. For every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries.
More than 50% of drowning victims treated in emergency departments (EDs) require hospitalization or transfer for further care (compared with a hospitalization rate of about 6% for all unintentional injuries). These nonfatal drowning injuries can cause severe brain damage that may result in long-term disabilities such as memory problems, learning disabilities, and permanent loss of basic functioning (e.g., permanent vegetative state).
Children ages 1 to 4 have the highest drowning rates. In 2009, among children 1 to 4 years old who died from an unintentional injury, more than 30% died from drowning. Among children ages 1 to 4, most drownings occur in home swimming pools.
However, even though swimming pools are dangerous, I made up that stuff about the study and I made up that quotation I attributed to Madenci. What Madenci actually said was, “While public health resources and policies have largely focused on military-style semi-automatic assault weapons, it may be more crucial to intervene on handguns.” The study was not about swimming pools or drowning but about gunshot wounds and fatalities.
The number of US kids and teens who die from gunshot wounds in hospital has risen almost 60% in a decade, according to a new report. The study by two doctors looked at data from 1997 to 2009, and found the number of those hospitalized with gunshot wounds rose from 4,270 to 7,730, while the number of those that then died from them climbed from 317 to 503, NBC News reports. Eight out of 10 of the wounds came from handguns, says study author Arin L. Madenci. “Furthermore, states with higher percentages of household firearm ownership also tended to have higher proportions of childhood gunshot wounds, especially those occurring in the home,” he says.

As a result of the findings, the authors say, perhaps the national conversation about gun control should move from larger semi-automatic weapons to limiting the number of smaller firearms in homes… The director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research tells Discovery that research and data like this has been sorely lacking in the field since Congress stopped funding it in the 1990s. “I see this as a huge step forward,” he says.
The reason Congress stopped funding it is because, as is obvious in this case, most of the “research” is simply a government tool for waging a propaganda war against the Second Amendment. And if the Second Amendment is really the law of the Constitution then it should not be legal for the government to openly campaign against the law it is supposed to uphold and support. Private groups can do their own research without making gun-owning taxpayers fund a state-effort to undermine basic human rights.
In this case the effort is especially egregious because the double standard between handguns in a home and swimming pools in the backyard was openly revealed in the bestselling book, Freakonomics. We’re all supposed to get amnesia on cue whenever Liberals demand it of us.

With Obamacare pouncing upon us, the fix is in. This study is a propaganda effort to give Obamacare fangs to intrude into the home of every family of gun owners. It is not motivated by love of children. Both in terms of deaths and wounds water incidents are many times as dangerous. This study has nothing to do with child safety concerns and everything to do with the states interest in having a (more!) disarmed population upon which it can work its will without fear of return fire.
