PHOENIX — Police arrested a 35-year-old man following a marathon carjacking rampage that spanned two cities Monday evening.

Julio Ivan Tinero-Figuera was accused of stealing two cars, crashing one of them.

According to Phoenix police, Tinero-Figuera started his rampage by carjacking two people at gunpoint just north of 43rd Avenue and Camelback Road.

He reportedly abandoned that car nearby a short time later, which is when police say he forced his way into four separate Glendale homes, still armed with a handgun.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect brandishing a firearm and jumping fences into backyards.

While inside the fourth home, police say the Tinero-Figuera made one victim give him the keys to another car, which he crashed in a neighborhood near 47th Avenue and Bethany Home, before getting arrested.

Police say there were seven victims in all. No one was hurt in any of the incidents.

“This type of individual is very dangerous,” says Phoenix Police Lt. Jeff Pierce. “He’s carjacking vehicles, forcibly entering homes, holding people at gunpoint, trying to get additional vehicles. He’s very dangerous and it’s a very good thing we have him off the streets.”

Tinero-Figuera was not armed when police arrested him. However, Glendale police said officers did find a gun inside the car that was taken.

Tinero-Figuera has served time in an Arizona prison and has been deported, according to court documents. He admitted to being in the county illegally.

Tinero-Figuera  was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on numerous charges, including aggravated assault and armed robberies.
