Mum the ‘mastermind of home invasion’, police claim

A 19-YEAR-OLD mother led two armed juvenile boys on a violent home invasion in inner-city Toowoomba, the city’s courts heard yesterday.

Nicole Emily Wilson, of Redland Bay, had driven the two Harristown boys, aged 14 and 15, to Queens Park just after midday Wednesday.

It is claimed the trio walked through the park to a Godsall St residence, one of the boys armed with a knife, the other with a baseball bat.

They entered the house to find a 22-year-old man in the shower and a woman, 22, in the kitchen.

It is alleged the boys held the home occupants at bay with their weapons while Wilson rifled through rooms, stealing a jar containing money and a wallet.

The trio fled the scene with the male complainant in pursuit. He was assaulted when he briefly caught up with them.

The woman and one of the boys drove off in a car and were arrested later Wednesday night while the other juvenile was caught by police not far from the scene soon after the incident.

The two boys were granted watchhouse bail and Wilson kept in custody until appearing before Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday morning.

She sat crying, handcuffed, in the court dock as her solicitor Divina DeLeon applied for bail on her behalf.

Ms DeLeon said her client instructed she had only given the boys a lift to Queens Park and had not realised she was to be part of the incident.

Her client claimed she had been scared and did what the juveniles told her to do, acting under duress, Ms DeLeon said.

Wilson only had a drug conviction in her criminal history and nothing of a like nature, she submitted.

Each of the accused was charged with entering a dwelling with intent in company, two counts of deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed in company and two counts of stealing.

None of the three was required to enter any pleas to the charges.

Magistrate Bruce Schemioneck said, by his reading of the police objection to bail document, Wilson was the “mastermind” of the event and not the children.

With her fiancé and 10-month-old son in the court gallery, Wilson was refused bail and remanded in custody to appear again in the same court on November 21.

The two juveniles appeared before Toowoomba Children’s Court and were each granted bail with strict conditions to appear back in court the same day.
