Two suburban men and a juvenile were charged with felony home invasion after assaulting people during two separate break-ins at an Elgin home, police said.

The home invasions took place on the 900 block of Carl Avenue.

On Nov. 28, several people entered the home and held a 22-year-old man against his will, striking him and stealing items from the home, according to a news release from the Elgin Police Department. The incident was not reported to police.

On Jan. 3, a similar situation occurred when several people entered the home and struck a 38-year-old resident, who required medical attention, and stole items from the home, police said.

While investigating the Jan. 3 situation, police say they connected the first home invasion to three people.

Charged with one count of home invasion, a Class X felony, were: Ronald J. Brainer, 21, of Hoffman Estates; and Steven D. Flynn, 19, of Schaumburg; as well as the unidentified juvenile.

Flynn and the juvenile appeared in a Cook County bond court.

Brainer, who was transferred back to the custody of the Cook County sheriff’s office where he was previously in custody on a separate offense, will appear before a Cook County judge Thursday morning.
