SARASOTA — A Bradenton man was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday morning for the home invasion robbery of a mother and son in Sarasota County earlier this year.

Yancy Steen was convicted last Thursday of the Jan. 21 home invasion.

Steen is known as a “prison releasee reoffender”, according to Assistant State Attorney Kennedy Legler. This means Steen committed a certain crime within three years of being released from a state prison and so the maximum penalty he can receive becomes his minimum sentence.

“I think it was a great example of two law enforcement agencies working together to get a really bad guy off the streets,” Legler said.
