Police seek suspect in Cumru Twp. home invasion

Cumru Township police are searching for a man who broke into a home and stole cash while armed with a handgun. However, police emphasized the home invasion was not random.

Police said a man kicked in the rear doors of a home in the 900 block of Bedford Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police described the suspect as a white man in his 30s, with scruffy facial hair and long dark curly hair pulled back into a pony tail.

The man requested the male resident of the home by name when confronted by a female relative in the home, police said. The man then searched the home until contacting the male resident.

The man was armed with a small silver handgun and stole an undisclosed amount from the resident before leaving in a vehicle waiting for him in front of the home, police said.

Even though the man asked for the resident by name, police said the resident did not know the man’s identity.

The man is described as about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs between 180 and 190 pounds. He was wearing large, round, tinted glasses, a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark blue jeans and work boots. The driver of the vehicle was described as a white female with light-colored hair. The vehicle was an older model dark green minivan or station wagon with a boxy body design.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 610-777-9595 or to leave an anonymous tip through Crime Alert Berks County by calling 877-373-9913.
