ST. PETERSBURG — Police are investigating a pair of overnight home invasions that left at least one person injured.

Both cases have drug overtones, police said Wednesday morning.

In the first case, at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, three or four armed and masked men broke into a home at 2340 Caesar Way S and demanded drugs and money. The people inside fled and no one was injured.

About two hours later, a young couple called police and said a group of masked men broke into their home at 1225 Russell Drive N and demanded drugs and money.

The burglars shot one of the occupants, a 23-year-old man who has not been identified. The young man is being treated at a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries, police said.

Detectives are investigating whether the two cases are related. They did not have a detailed description of the invaders.
