AR Open Carry Celebration

My dad was born in Jonesboro. I have lots of family in AR. It seems to be a right smart state. Although I will admit that when my wife and I drove through AR, it seemed that just about everyone was a walk on for Duck Dynasty! I love the show.

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Several people were in downtown Jonesboro Sunday to celebrate their 2nd Amendment Rights.

“Today is just a day of celebration of some 2nd Amendment Rights we gained this year, through the legislative process,” said Arkansas Carry Board Member Scott Vaughn.

ACT 746 was approved back in April. Vaughn said this was an act that needed to be approved, after he felt the state and government’s restrictions were unfair.

“Our 2nd Amendment Right gives us the right to keep and bear arms, and that’s not supposed to be infringed, “said Vaughn.

Vaughn said this was important for those who wish to carry a gun in order to protect themselves and their family.

“Not everybody can afford a concealed weapon license,” said Vaughn.  “So should they not be allowed to be able to protect themselves?”

Although, there are those who disagree, Vaughn said he has spoken with several people who are on board with the new law.

“I’ve talked to some law enforcement officials across the state, and we definitely have a large group that’s with us,” said Vaughn.

Vaughn said it’s all a matter of opinion, but just because some do not agree, does not mean it should affect those who wish to carry.

“If they don’t want to carry that’s fine,” said Vaughn. “If they disagree about carrying a gun or disagree about gun rights period, that’s their option.”

I often carry open but in my town that’s not unusual … depending upon what I’m doing my carry can be a Ruger Single-Six .22 mag in a western holster (tied down, no less!!) … a Kel-Tec PMR 30 .22 mag semi-auto, or a Ruger P-90 .45 acp …
I’ve told this story before: I was at a local diner having lunch one day last spring when a guy sat down next to me at the counter … I sort of know him but we’re not buds … I was wearing the P-90 that day & he commented on it … ‘that’s a big pistol,’ he said …
… then he brought out a Colt compact 9mm to show … we traded guns, talked about the pros & coins of each … then a fella a few seats down brought out his revolver — a classic .45 Long Colt single action …
Within a few minutes half the guys brought out their pieces … but the cap to the lunch was when the counter lady brought out her Sig Sauer P-226 …
I live in a very safe community.
Everyone I know here carries — some open some concealed — but everyone totes.
